Nestled in the heart of the village, the site is conveniently located near a cozy coffee house and a grocery store. The campsite is large and surrounded by lush greenery. Guests can rent small cabins with sleeping bag accommodations and take advantage of the available Wi-Fi. The service house offers cooking facilities, a dining area, hot and cold water, showers, a washing machine, a tumble dryer, and ten toilets. In addition to its convenient location, the campsite is surrounded by a variety of recreational opportunities. There are many walking paths, a swimming pool, a football field, a grocery store, and health care facilities within walking distance of the site. Kirkjubæjarklaustur has a fascinating history dating back to the settlement period, and it is believed that monks lived in the area before that time. The village was home to a convent of nuns from 1186-1550. According to local legend, during a large volcanic eruption, the lava was flowing towards the town when a priest held a mass and prayed that the lava would stop. Miraculously, the lava stopped just outside of town, and the people believed that it was due to the priest's prayer and religious devotion.
