The Skaftafell campsite is situated in the heart of the magnificent Skaftafell National Park, which was established in 1967 and later became a part of the Vatnajökull National Park in 2008. The park boasts a plethora of diverse walking paths that cater to all levels of fitness, and the stunning landscapes are the perfect backdrop for outdoor activities like hiking or glacier exploration. The campground is thoughtfully divided into different zones, including Ugluflöt (A), Spóaflöt (B), Rjúpnaflöt (C), and Mávaflöt (D), where visitors can drive onto and use electricity. Additionally, zone Lóuflöt (E) is accessible by car, but there is no electricity available. For those preferring to camp in tents, there are designated zones, including Kjóaflöt (F), Hrafnaflöt (G), and Fálkaflöt (H). The campground offers a range of amenities, including electricity, hot and cold water, showers, toilets, and waste disposal facilities for mobile homes. Visitors can also make use of a washing machine and internet services while they are there. It is important to note the campground's rules to ensure a pleasant stay for everyone. Visitors should show respect and consideration for others, keeping the noise level low and avoiding loud music or excessive noise that could disrupt the peace of the campground. Additionally, alcohol consumption should be kept to a minimum, and peace and quiet should be observed between 23:00 and 07:00. To protect the environment, visitors must refrain from collecting firewood within the national park and take care when using cooking equipment to avoid fire hazards and damage to vegetation. Pets are welcome, provided they are kept under control and do not disturb other visitors or wildlife, and dogs must be kept on a lead. Finally, visitors are encouraged to keep the campground and its surroundings tidy, using the waste disposal facilities provided and sorting waste correctly. Drinking bottles and cans with a deposit can be put in separate collecting coops to support the local search and rescue team.
