Strútslaug

Skaftárhreppur

GET DIRECTIONS

Strútslaug stands as one of the most secluded geothermal pools among those accessible in Iceland, making it a destination visited by only a handful of people. Nestled close to the source of the Hólmsá River, the pool offers an ideal temperature set against a breathtaking landscape, surrounded by majestic mountains on all sides. Situated deep in the Highlands, reaching Strútslaug entails a few hours of driving in a robust and well-equipped 4X4 vehicle. It is positioned near the challenging-to-navigate Highland road Syðri Fjallabak, emphasizing the need for a capable vehicle.

For those intrigued by this remote part of Iceland, engaging a local guide is recommended. Adjacent to the picturesque Mælifell mountain, a turn to the north leads to Strútur mountain and its accompanying hut. From the hut, a roughly seven-kilometer hike unfolds, taking approximately four to five hours in total, inclusive of both the walk and the rejuvenating dip in the pool. Time effortlessly slips away amid the scenic beauty surrounding the Strútur mountain.
