Hut and Campsite Along F907:
Sænautasel: A remote, traditional farmhouse located on the Jökuldalsheiði moor, originally built in 1843. It was inhabited for a full century until it was abandoned in 1945. The farm was partially rebuilt in 1992 and has since been restored after snow damage in 2009. The site served as inspiration for Nobel Prize-winning author Halldór Laxness when writing his novel Independent People.
The farm offers a unique example of mid-19th century architecture and is located just 5 km from the main road. In the summer, refreshments are available at Sænautasel.
