Víti Askja

Nestled within the Dyngjufjöll Mountains, the Víti Crater in Askja unveils a breathtaking spectacle—an awe-inspiring lake cradled within its roughly 1km wide and 140m deep confines. At its heart lies the steaming Öskjuvatn lake.

Under favorable conditions, park rangers permit visitors to take a dip in the crater lake. However, it's crucial to heed the indications provided by the rangers on a given day. Exercise caution at all times when swimming in Víti Crater.
