The Iceland Touring Association (FÍ) operates three cozy mountain huts in Botnar on Emstrur, along the popular Laugavegur trail from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk. These huts offer sleeping arrangements for up to 60 people, and each one features gas stoves, utensils, and running water. The bunk rooms are designed with 10 double bunk beds and a small open kitchen with tables and chairs. The huts are connected by a lovely patio and surrounded by outdoor amenities such as tables, benches, and a charcoal grill. A small warden's hut is also provided, as well as a toilet house which is shared by the huts and the nearby camping ground. A facility fee is required for use of the bathrooms and outdoor facilities. In summer, 4x4 jeeps can access the huts via Emstruleið (F261), which connects to Fjallabaksleið syðri (F210) near the Bláfjallakvísl and Kaldaklofskvísl rivers. Note that there are several unbridged rivers along these roads, requiring special care. The huts' opening season depends on road and snow conditions, but generally, they are open from June 25 until September 18. Book a bed in advance.
