To reach Hornstrandir, one of Iceland's most isolated regions in the northwest, you must abandon your car and take a ferry from Isafjörður. Hesteyri, a former village that was once home to 80 Icelanders, now operates as a small hostel/hotel, cafe, and a few vacation homes. Tourists typically stay in the campsite among the remains of past homes and yards, while fishing off the boat dock and skinny dipping in the sea can still be enjoyed.

The ocean still provides plenty of food, as evidenced by the fishing, and even a curious seal made an appearance during a sea-swim.
