Hraunfjarðarvatn is nestled in the enchanting landscapes of Snæfellsnes, situated approximately 160 km from Reykjavík. It's about 15 km south of both Grundarfjörður and Stykkishólmur, accessible through the new road network on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The last section of the journey requires a 15-minute walk, suitable only for four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Covering an area of about 2.5 km2, Hraunfjarðarvatn reaches a depth of 84 meters, making it the deepest where the lake is located. The lake is situated approximately 207 meters above sea level, and Vatnaá flows from Hraunfjarðarvatn into Baulárvallarvatn.
Day licenses can be purchased to explore the abundant fishing opportunities in Hraunfjarðarvatn.
Anglers have the freedom to fish throughout the lake.
Camping is permitted free of charge near the lake, though there are no organized camping sites or sanitation facilities available.
Hraunfjarðarvatn boasts consistent and excellent trout fishing. The lake is home to trout with an average weight of 2-3 pounds, but larger fish weighing 5-6 pounds are frequently caught, especially during the twilight hours.
Anglers can use a variety of legal baits, including flies, worms, and spinners. When the trout move closer to the shore, using a fly can be particularly effective.
Fishing remains good throughout the summer, with twilight hours generally providing the best results.
The landowner bears no responsibility for any losses or damages incurred by Fishing Card holders or others connected to the anglers on the fishing grounds.
