Situated on Laxárdalsheiði in Dölum, Laxárvatn is approximately 180 km from Reykjavík or 30 km from Búðardal. Travelers can take the route through Bröttubrekka towards Búðardal if coming from the south, or follow traditional routes from North Iceland or the Westfjords. Before reaching Laxá in Dölum, turn up Laxárdalur and head towards the Sólheimar farm to register. To reach the lake, it is advisable to take the old road from the main road, running alongside Lægðarlækur. Vehicles can be parked there, and you can walk down to the lake.
Laxá in Dölum originates from Laxárvatn. The lake covers about 0.5 km² and is situated at an elevation of approximately 150 meters above sea level.
Day licenses are available for purchase, offering access to the diverse fishing grounds of Laxárvatn.
Anglers are welcome to fish in all areas of the lake.
Tent camping is allowed near the lake, free of charge and at your own responsibility, in consultation with the landowner. Please note that there are no designated sanitation facilities.
While Laxárvatn is known for excellent fishing, the primary catch is Arctic char, with an average size of 1-3 pounds.
Permitted bait includes flies, worms, and spinners. The use of nets is strictly prohibited.
Good fishing opportunities persist throughout the summer.
