About the Lake

Sauðlauksdalsvatn covers an area of approximately 0.35 km² and sits at an elevation of around 10 meters above sea level. The lake is easily accessible, and driving is allowed only along marked paths.

Individual day licenses can be purchased for various lakes. Fishing is permitted throughout the lake, with an emphasis on the main area of arrival. The lake is well-suited for fly fishing, and wading is easy on the yellow sandy shores.

Tent camping is allowed at the lake at your own responsibility, but no sanitation facilities are available in the area. Plans are underway to establish a sanitation facility for the summer. Accommodation options are also available at guesthouses in Patreksfjörður.

The lake is home to both sea-run and resident trout, and Arctic char can also be found. Trout catches weighing up to 16 pounds have been reported, with an average weight of 1-1.5 pounds.
