Getting There from Reykjavík and Nearby Settlements

The lake is approximately 35 km from Egilsstaðir, 50 km from Breiðdalsvík, and 50 km from Djúpivogur via Öxi. The road distance from Reykjavík is about 595 km.

About the Lake

Skriðuvatn covers an area of approximately 1.25 km² and sits at an elevation of around 10 meters. The lake is at an elevation of 155 meters above sea level. Öxará, Forvaðará, and Vatnsdalsá flow into the lake, and Múlaá originates from Skriðuvatn.

Fishing Area

The fishing area encompasses Skriðuvatn to the east in the land of Vatnsskógar. It includes the area where Skriðuvatn flows into Múlaá and the entire shoreline of the lake to the east, extending to Öxará. Fishing rights also extend to the eastern part of Múlaá, from the river's source down to 250 meters downstream marked by boundary poles. Fishing is allowed in Öxará to the east, where the river flows into Skriðuvatn and upstream along the river. Fly fishing is recommended in the lagoon that flows from the lake into Múlaá.

Accommodation

Fishing cardholders have permission to camp free of charge in the land of Vatnsskógar, ensuring they leave no trace and respect the environment. However, there are no organized camping facilities or sanitation stations in the area. Accommodation can also be obtained in Egilsstaðir, Breiðdalsvík, and Djúpivogur.

Fish Variety: Trout Fishing Paradise

Skriðuvatn is primarily a trout fishing lake, and both resident and sea-run trout can be found. Stangaveiði (rod fishing) is exclusively allowed with barbless hooks, and all net fishing is prohibited.

Rules and Regulations

• Fishing cardholders can go directly to fish but must have the Fishing Card on hand to show to the fishing warden when visited.
• One child under the age of confirmation fishes for free when accompanied by a cardholder.
