Úlfljótsvatn - The Upper Part of Sog River
Situated in Grafningur, south of Þingvallavatn, Úlfljótsvatn is the upper part of the Sog River, between Írafoss and Steingrímsstöð. The fishing area covers the western part of the lake, excluding the land owned by the Icelandic Scouts and the Forestry Association of Iceland.
Getting There from Reykjavík and Nearby Settlements
The lake is about 65 km from Reykjavík, accessible either via Hellisheiði or Þingvellir, with a shorter 40 km route known as Nesjavallaleið.

Fishing Area and Restrictions
The Icelandic Scouts and the Forestry Association of Iceland jointly own the land around Úlfljótsvatn. Fishing is allowed in the Scout and Forestry land, marked by designated areas. The fishing area extends from Steingrímsstöð to Írafoss. It's important to respect the boundaries, and note that fishing in the spawning grounds of Upper Sog River is strictly prohibited.

Fish Species and Bait
- Fish: Mainly Arctic char, with some trout.
- Size: Average size is around half to two pounds, with an increase in larger catches in recent years.
- Bait: Allowed baits include fly, spinner, and worm. The use of ground bait, scent, or other attractants is prohibited.
Best Fishing Times
Prime fishing times are from mid-June to mid-August.
Rules and Regulations
- Anglers must register before heading to the fishing area at the service house on the campsite.
- Cleanliness: Littering is strictly prohibited; anglers must dispose of waste properly.
- Off-road driving and deviation from paths are strictly forbidden.
- Fishing cardholders causing environmental disturbances are responsible to the landowner.
- Fishing reports are available on the Veiðikort website.
- Bringing personal boats for fishing in Úlfljótsvatn requires consultation with landowners at each location.
- Children under 14 years old fish for free under the supervision of cardholders.
