Exploring Iceland's Wilderness: FI Mountain Huts and Campsites‍ 2024

Iceland's breathtaking landscapes and remote areas beckon adventure seekers, and the Ferðafélag Íslands (The Iceland Touring Association or FÍ) plays a crucial role in facilitating these experiences. Operating 40 mountain huts scattered across the country, FI provides shelter and accommodation in some of Iceland's most beloved trails, including the iconic Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls.

Booking and Payment

To secure your spot in any FÍ hut, advance booking and payment are mandatory. This can be conveniently done online using a credit card. The booking is confirmed only after full payment, and vouchers are subsequently sent via email.

Refund Policy

Flexibility is offered with a refund policy, considering unforeseen circumstances:

Cancelled 30 days or more before arrival: 85% refund

Cancelled 29 - 14 days before arrival: 50% refund

Cancelled 13 - 7 days before arrival: 25% refund

Cancelled less than 7 days before arrival: No refund

FÍ retains the right to deny refunds due to late or no arrival, adverse weather conditions, or other external factors.

Safety and Weather Precautions

Iceland's weather is known for its unpredictability. Visitors are advised to prepare for all conditions. Wind and waterproof jackets and trousers are essentials.

Prices 2024

The pricing for accommodation, valid from May 1st 2024, to April 30th 2025, varies across different huts:

Álftavatn: 13,000 kr.

Emstrur: 13,000 kr.

Fimmvörðuháls / Baldvinsskáli: 12,500 kr.

Hagavatn: 7,000 kr.

Hlöðuvellir: 7,500 kr.

Hornbjargsviti: 12,000 kr.

Hrafntinnusker: 13,000 kr.

Hvanngil: 13,000 kr.

Hvítárnes: 7,500 kr.

Landmannalaugar: 13,000 kr.

Norðurfjörður / Valgeirsstaðir: 8,500 kr.

Nýidalur: 12,000 kr.

Þjófadalir: 7,000 kr.

Þórsmörk / Langidalur: 13,000 kr.

Þverbrekknamúli: 7,500 kr.

Facility fee: 600 kr.

Please note that lodging taxes are not included in the listed prices. Additionally, an advance notice of changes is issued for the price list.

Facility Fee: Those using FÍ's facilities without staying overnight, such as toilets or outdoor grills, are charged a facility fee. This fee does not grant access to huts or permission to use indoor facilities.

Shower Fee: The shower fee is separate from the facility fee and the overnight stay price.
