Akureyri Swimming Pool is a fantastic family-friendly destination offering a variety of fun and relaxing facilities. The complex features two outdoor pools, each 25 meters in length, that are heated to ensure a comfortable swimming experience, even in cooler weather. Visitors can enjoy a choice of five hot tubs, with temperatures ranging between 38°C and 42°C, perfect for unwinding after a swim. The site also boasts a cold plunge pool, a steam bath, and an area for sunbathing with deck chairs available during warmer months.
For thrill-seekers, Akureyri Swimming Pool offers three water slides, including the longest in Iceland, adding an extra element of excitement. However, the larger slides have an age restriction of 8 years for safety reasons. There is also a dedicated children’s pool designed to ensure younger visitors can enjoy the water in a safe environment.
The pool is popular among both locals and tourists for its relaxing atmosphere and scenic surroundings, making it a great spot for both leisure and exercise. The facility also provides digital lockers in both the indoor and outdoor changing areas. For those with accessibility needs, there is a private changing room available on the second floor, accessible via elevator, equipped with lockers, an accessible shower, and a mobile bench. A portable pool lift can be provided upon request to assist guests in accessing all pools.
Before entering the pool, all visitors are required to shower without swimwear, following Iceland's pool hygiene standards.
Akureyri Swimming Pool is open year-round, with extended hours in the summer to accommodate more visitors during the peak tourist season. It remains a top attraction in northern Iceland, offering something for everyone, from families to solo travelers looking to relax in its geothermal waters.
