Álftavatn Hut and Campsite

The Álftavatn huts are conveniently located on the popular Laugavegur hiking trail, halfway between Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk. Operated by the Ferðafélag Íslands, these two huts offer sleeping bag accommodation for up to 72 guests. The larger hut has two floors and can accommodate 38 people, while the smaller hut has space for 36 people. Both huts have gas stoves, utensils, and running water, and share a toilet house and shower facility (for a fee). A small warden's hut is also on the premises. The nearby camping ground is spacious and has a winter latrine. Visitors not staying overnight must pay a facility fee to use the outdoor amenities. The huts' opening season varies but generally runs from June 25th to September 17th. Please note that 4x4 jeeps can access Álftavatn via Fjallabaksleið syðri (F210), but there are several unbridged rivers to cross. Book a bed in advance.
