About the Lake
- Ölvesvatn is the largest lake within the Selár watershed, covering about 2.8 km². It is relatively deep, and fishing is also allowed in nearby waters like Fossvatn, Selvatn, Heyvötn, Grunnutjörn, Andavatn, Stífluvatn, Eiðsá, Fossá, and the streams connecting them.

- Fishing is permitted across the entire watershed, including Ölvesvatn, Fossvatn, Selvatn, Heyvötn, Grunnutjörn, Andavatn, Stífluvatn, Eiðsá, Fossá, and the connecting streams.
Accommodation
- Camping permits are available at Hvalnes, and two cottages with cooking and sleeping facilities for up to 6 people each can be rented near Ölvesvatn. Reservation is required through the overseer in Hvalnes.
Fish Species and Bait
- Fish: The waters hold both Arctic char and brown trout, ranging from ½ to 3 pounds. Occasionally, char up to 6-7 pounds can be caught.
- Bait: Allowed baits include flies, worms, mackerel, and spinners. Good conditions for fly fishing are available.

- Fishing is consistently good throughout the day.
Rules and Regulations
- Access to the fishing area is limited, and it is necessary to call and make a reservation before arriving. Priority is given to those with cottage reservations.
- Fishing cardholders must register in Hvalnes, show their Fishing Card and identification, and obtain a key to the area.
- Internet fishing and the use of firearms are strictly prohibited. Littering and off-road driving are also forbidden.
- Children under 14 fish for free when accompanied by a cardholder.
- Fishermen in Hvalnes receive fishing reports for completion and information about the area. Reports and keys must be returned to Hvalnes at the end of the fishing trip.
