Individual day licenses can be purchased for various lakes.

Fishing Area

Fishing is permitted throughout the lake and nearby rivers, Gilsá and Fossá, from April 1st to August 20th. However, fishing is restricted in Ósa river, which flows out of the lake, and the areas marked in Grjótnes and Vatnsnes. Special licenses for Ósa river can be obtained from veiditorg.is.

Bolungarvíkurkaupstað offers a company campsite and guesthouses, a swimming pool, and various recreational facilities.

Fish Variety: Local Arctic Char, Sea Char, and Trout

The lake is home to local Arctic char, sea char, sea trout, and occasional salmon. Trolling is also possible when the lake is frozen, but it should be done in consultation with the fishing warden.

Bait Options: Fly, Worm, and Spinner

Permitted bait includes fly, worm, and spinner.

Best Fishing Times: July and August

The most productive fishing months are July and August.
