OBTENIR L'ITINÉRAIRE
Stóragjá, a lesser-known rift in North Iceland, harbors a cave filled with naturally-heated geothermal water. Situated near the village of Reykjahlið, nestled against the popular Lake Mývatn, it often remains overshadowed by the more famous Grótagjá cave. Nevertheless, Stóragjá is a hidden gem well deserving of exploration, offering a more secluded experience with fewer crowds.
Accessing the mesmerizing azure geothermal waters requires visitors to navigate through a narrow ravine, followed by a careful ascent into the cave using the provided ropes and carved steps.
While the beauty of Stóragjá is captivating, bathing in its waters is strongly discouraged. The striking blue coloration is a result of potentially harmful algae, and the lack of filtration may lead to unhealthy bacteria levels from previous bathers.
