The Hloduvellir hut, owned by the ITA and Laugadaela County, is a rustic gem located in the lava field at the southern base of Mt Hlodufell. Built in 1970, the hut features a spacious entrance hall, a sleeping hall with a kitchenette equipped with a gas stove, and 15 bunks. Water for the hut is collected from its roof. The hut's surroundings boast an array of attractions, including Mt. Hlodufell, Eldborgin in the Lamb Lava Field, Mt Kalfstindur, Mt Hognhofdi, Mt Skrida, and Mt Skjaldbreid. One of the most popular hiking trails in the area is across Rotarsandur to Gorge Bruararskord. Other 4wd access tracks start from the Haukadalur forest valley near the Geysir area and the southernmost part of the Kjolur route. If you plan to stay in the hut, the price per person is Ikr. 7000.-. Alternatively, camping for Ikr. 2500.- per person. Book the hut in advance.
