Hvítárnes Hut and Campsite

Hvítárnesskáli was built in 1930, is a unique and historical mountain hut owned and operated by Ferðafélag Íslands (The Iceland Touring Association, FÍ). Its traditional turf roof and age make it a protected site under Icelandic law. With space for up to 30 guests across its two floors, the ground floor offers an entrance, a small kitchen with running cold water, gas-stove, log-stove, and utensils, as well as two rooms with bunk beds. The loft features a larger dormitory with mattresses on the floor and a small room. Guests are reminded to carry their trash out with them, leaving the lodge in pristine condition. The toilet facilities are located in a separate house a short distance away, and a warden's hut is nearby. The camping ground is also situated close to the toilet. The Hvítárnes hut offers a spectacular view, and it is a great starting or ending point for hikes along the ancient Kjölur. Book the bed in advance.
